GLOBAL WARNINGS

Such a bad week for every doggies 2 leggededs. World's gone crazy. Banks going bust. Banks taking over other Banks. House prices plummeting. Shares prices spirally down. Redundancies. Weird Weather. All Wagging Worrying. I have my paws crossed everydog and their 2 leggededs are all ok.

Now I'm wagging worried too. Bout my trees. When I returned from Puppy Play School I wagged my wig over to my little local park. You know the one. Not the Royal one.

This one. Where I chase birdies away for Mommy. Look how far away she was to take this photie of me chasing 'em. He,he,he!!

Where little me runs. In ginormous green spaces. And wanders in the wooded areas.

When I walked into the park this week it looked like this. A carpet of leaves.

I hear you barking "So what Eric, autumn drifted in early?" Nope. No sirree. No dogee. It hasn't. These Horse Chestnut Trees are dying. Diseased. Every one.

This woody avenue of Horse Chestnut Trees in my little park . . .

looked like this in the Spring. Blooming bootiful ...

.....now looks like this. Sick. Bad. Poorly trees. Oh. Boo. Hoo. They are mine 'n Mommy's most favourest favourite of trees.

Mini 2 leggededs love these trees too. Collect their conkers in autumn for games. Mommy always collects a handful too, crazy over them. The disease is spreading fast across all Horse Chestnut Trees. Weak from 3 winters without water, now they've got an unknown bacteria.Maybe from the "Him A Layas". A bleeding canker which seeps into the trees, damaging both branches and trunk. Branches fall off. Finally the tree might topple over. Yikees. In Britain 49% of the consevative estimated total of TWO MILLION Chestnut Trees are sickly. That's a blogging big old number. Thousands and thousands plus tons and tons more. Remember the Chestnut Trees in my Royal Bushy Park? Can't bear to show you how sad those ones look now.

But here's one tree last Spring providing shelter for the dear little deer. The dear little deer eat the conkers from the trees in autumn. They'll be hungry soon. Sniff. Sniff.

Mile upon mile of Chestnut Trees, line the avenues of my Royal Park. All hundreds and hundreds of years old. And nobloggie knows know how to stop or cure their disease. Some say it's caused by Global Warming. They've already cut down enormously huge branches from the trees in my little park. Just as well. Don't want a tree to fall on my noddle. Dog-a-blogging dangerous. And Chestnut Trees are ALL OVER. Lining the main roads. Lines of them growing up and down my local streets. In private and public gardens. Churchyards. Commemorative places. Every which way we go. Every which where I look. I see them. All poorly. Where I wig my wag, in the south east, 75% of the Chestnut Trees are affected. Waaaaaaaaah. That's Sad. AAAAAhhhhhh. Scary too. Dogs. Kitties. Hammies. What will I do? Apart from don a safety helmet for protection. Maybe some body armour too. This means .....

No trees for playing sticks....

No bark for larking....

No Chestnut trees for their most impawtent use. Leaving pee mail.

When you go out today. Hug your favourite tree. Give him a Play Bow. Yap how much you like him. His shelter. His sticks. For everything. Be woofing grateful for his wonderfulness. And leave an extra big pee mail. Yep, I'm a Sad Square Dog. Dog-a-blogging-sobbing. Must be a Global Warning. Bout Global Warming. How's it affecting your world? I wonder.

Eric my man: Excellent post. Raising awareness and all that. Can't tell you much about damage in our area...haven't been here long enough you see. Do know that many trees in St.Loulis have some kind of disease and are peeling their barkies too.

Toad population here in trouble. Teka decimating them. Will try to put a stop to it. Toads are helpful. Teka is not

That's just awful, Eric! Around here, we have Pine Beetles. They kill pine trees. We have loads of really tall Georgia Pines in our yard and we are just waiting on the beetles to get them. Our neighbor, across the street, lost 9 of his pine trees last week. It's just awful!

Hi Eric, I came over to introduce myself, Mango the Maltese kiddo in Texas, USA.
I'm impressed on your winning barking picture, what a set of teethy you have.
Thanks for alerting us about world economy, does that mean we gonna be poorer? I eat as little as 1/2 cup a day, may be I will cut down some more to save the world?
Cheers!

Wow Eric....

Too bad about yer chestnut trees fer sure....'n too bad yer so far away from us cause we had a bunch of those horse chestnut trees in pots here growin' from seeds.....we call 'em buckeye trees.....we also have real chestnut trees growin' in pots ready ta plant up at our cottage.....but if there is a disease that's harmin' 'em, new ones won't solve the problem.....

Right now in Pa., there is an emerald ash borer that was first identified in North America in southeastern Michigan in 2002. Larvae of the beetle feed in the tissues under the bark of ash trees ( Fraxinus spp.) causing the girdling and death of branches and entire trees. All the ash trees are dyin' here and ta try 'n stop it, they won't let ya take wood from one county ta another fer fear of takin' the bug right along with it. Over 20 million ash trees have been lost to this pest.

We all cry when the beautiful trees we love die...not only are they pretty but ya need 'em fer peemail...

Great post, Eric, since peemail is a great fertilizer maybe if ya pee on 'em a bit, they will recover.....but not so much as ta overfertilize 'em....

Go green.....

I havta wonder....do ya think this was orchestrated by a new type 'o terrorist.....the sneaky kind....couldn't get us with airplanes....try the stock market and banks ????

Good evening eric.
The financial market is a subprime loan, and a large shake.
However, the market does the self recovery.
In the problem, room where the interest rate falls is a thing that not is.
When the blessing of nature is felt, happiness in the forest :.
And, there are a lot of influences of Global warming of an increase of the deer and the generation of the insect, etc.We should ..Global warming prevention.. try.
The weekend with the power of the plant that defends nature. :D

It is terrible about the Horsechestnut Trees dying off.
They are my all time favourite tree too, with a different face for every season.
Lots of my local ones are affected & Dreamingspires had many fine specimens, within the city & Christ Church meadow.
Even my own little tree, a sapling in my garden looks ill.

Hey Eric,

I'm sorry about your trees, that is very, very sad.

Did you chase those deer?

I'm branching out from exclusively hunting squirrelies and adding deer to my repertoire!

How sad! Years and years ago our American Chestnut trees got a blight and most of them died. These were the eating kind! A different strain was planted and we see lots of them growing but it takes years for the trees to get to any decent size!
We hate to see this happening!

Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

Sad to hear about your trees. There is a pine beetle infestation killing pine trees here. They've killed thousands of kilometres of BC forest and they are spreading across the country.

Oh Eric, the world has fallen on hard times. With the stock market the way it is, maybe everyone should just empty their bank accounts and hide their money under the mattrass.

We're feeling the affects of Global Warming here in Canada too, of course. There's Dutch Elm Disease sadly killing off lots of our trees. And even in our own garden, there are so many more destructive insects eating up our trees and plants.. more than ever before. Like the Japanese beetles that eat our cone flowers and roses. They were never a problem before. Now there's zillions of them. Now our beautiful Scotch pine is diseased with a kind of fungus that we can't get rid of. And slugs are eating up just about everything else. It's all because of the heat and the humidity. We don't want to use any insecticides because the cats and I play in the garden, and that would just be putting more toxins into the environment. So we're watching our garden disintegrate with each passing summer. Boo hoo.

Oh well, Eric, we have to look at the bright side of things. Maybe we have to look a little harder to find them, but when we do, we can't let go of the thought.

Thanks for the thoughtful post, my friend.

hi Eric, we're sad that you are sad about global warming. we think it's making everydog sad. we leave lots of pee mail on all of our favorite trees, but we don't have those chestnut trees. we only have dumb trees that make pine cones. pine cones are okay to chew on, but not in the house says mom.

It's not a bed of roses over here either. But you are doing a good job of sharing about the effects of global warming. Hope everyone take heed and do their part. Love the pictures you've taken!

I have an award for you, Eric!

Eric, that is so sad! Horse chestnuts are just like Buckeyes, which is the mascot of my people's college, Ohio State University. Be careful because I think they're poisonous, so don't eat any!

Your friend, Lenny

Yes, there's even a recipe for a candy called a Buckeye that's peanut butter covered in chocolate. Yummy. The Buckeye is the state tree of Ohio, where Mommy lived as a girl. But Horse Chestnut sounds so much nicer.

Dontcha just love running off the lead? It makes me feel like doing a wiggly dance.

Your pal,

Petey

P.S. Are you going on a date with Lacie??? She sure gets around!

It's becoming a pretty scary world Eric. We're so sorry to hear about those poor chestnut trees.
Parts of Australia are suffering severly with drought. We're pretty lucky up here where we live. We seems to have a pretty consistant rainfall though a few years back was a different story.
